Guide: Install MetaMask and get your first NFT with BadgeTree

This guide will lead you step by step through the process of installing an Ethereum compatible wallet. You will also learn how to connect to the Polygon network for low gas fees and eventually get a free NFT that will lead you to a surprise! Let’s do it…

Before we begin, please equip yourself with a pen and paper. It is crucial for the security of this process

Download and install MetaMask on mobile

Got a pen and paper? let’s set up MetaMask (please read before you follow the steps below)

• Start the MetaMask mobile app and follow the setup instructions to create a new wallet
• Use Face ID or fingerprint instead of a password if possible, otherwise create a strong password
• Write your 12 word passphrase on a piece of paper
• Keep it in a safe place
• Don’t lose it! – There is no reset functionality in crypto
• Never make digital copies of your 12 word passphrase!
• NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSPHRASE WITH STRANGERS!

Now that you have documented your 12 word passphrase, please keep it in a safe place and don’t lose it. If you ever want to control the same wallet from another app, or reinstall MetaMask, the 12 word passphrase will allow you to have full control of your wallet.

Saying that, we would like to reiterate that whoever holds these 12 words, is the owner of the wallet, so if you ever share it with anyone else, they actually own the wallet as well. Be mindful of that, and refrain from making digital copies (like screenshots or digital notes) of the passphrase, because they can easily leak to online servers (like iCloud) and potentially into the hands of hackers.

If you ever forget your access password, or lose your phone, you can import your wallet into a new installation of MetaMask (or another wallet app) with the 12 word passphrase.

Add Polygon network to your MetaMask

Polygon is a level 2 Ethereum network that allows you to interact with the blockchain with very low gas fees compared to Ethereum. Gas fees are sometimes required for interactions with smart contracts. Therefore, lots of people are using the Polygon network for their smart contracts, instead of interacting with the level 1 Ethereum network, which is more expensive to use.

Add Polygon to MetaMask mobile:

1. Press Wallet (Top center)
2. Press Add a network
3. Select Polygon mainnet
4. Approve
5. Switch to network
